Intimacy Over Miracles
After being back in Tennessee for almost a month, I have had some time to begin reflecting on our 4 years of living and working in Los Angeles. While this will be a process that takes revelation time to unfold, there is one thing that I want to reflect upon that I believe will set the course for where the Lord is taking me in ministry and how it can impact your life. What I want to talk about is the importance of desiring to have intimacy with the Father over anything else in this world, including operating in the miraculous. Everything is meaningless and amounts to absolutely nothing unless you abide IN him and he IN you!
In our culture of “success” we want to judge a ministry/minister based upon how big a church is, the type of spiritual gifts he/she operates in, how many books he/she sells, who they know, and how their itinerary for traveling ministry looks. All of these can be good if the Lord is in it, but without him this is a kingdom of man built on sand that will burn when it is tried by the fires of his holy judgment. This is why Jesus himself says in Matthew 7:21-23, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness” (NKJV).
Do you not know how many ministers are going to stand before Holy King Jesus, and his response will be “depart from me, I never knew you. You are a worker of lawlessness.” As a minister myself, this is the most terrifying thing I could imagine. If this does not put the fear of God in you then you need deliverance.
Although I am grateful for our training in Los Angeles, I cannot help but to weep over the grip of the spirit of Babylon over the church there. I weep over those leaders that are living in adultery, bribing others with money, controlling and manipulating the people of God, living in sexual perversions of all kinds, and condoning abominations in the house of the Lord. This goes beyond a leader having character flaws that he/she is working out with the Lord. This is about straight up rebellion and sin in the eyes of the Lord.
Instead of judging a ministry on the spiritual gifts it operates in, you better judge the ministry based upon the spiritual fruit it is bearing behind the scenes. National and international popularity means absolutely nothing if the fruit is rotten. The gifts and call of God are irrevocable whether a leader lives in secret sin and rebellion to God or not. This is why you cannot judge a ministry based upon outward success, you have to judge the ROOT. Whatever the root is then so will the fruit be.
I personally do not care if you can raise the dead, heal the sick and cast out demons; this means nothing outside of intimacy with God. This is a sign of giftedness not always of Kingdom fruit birthed out of the secret place. I want to know how you treat those that work for your ministry. Do you live in integrity, holiness, and righteousness? Do you remember the poor and the widows? Do you bear the gifts of the Spirit without the fruit of the Spirit or do you bear them both because you live in deep intimacy with God?
Gifts are given to you, but fruit is the result of your heart being cultivated by the Lord. Fruit takes time and is the result of intimacy with the Father. It shows that you have spent time with him over and over in the secret place. It shows that you have laid hold of God and he has laid hold of you!
The fruit of the Spirit comes after praying things over and over like, “God, burn up everything in me that is not of you. Do whatever it takes to keep me from missing your call on my life. Do whatever it takes to keep me humble and abiding in you. Break my heart for what breaks your heart. Give me your heart and your mind. I want to see what you see and feel what you feel. Oh God, keep me consumed by your holy fire!” Those are the prayers that many do not want to pray, but this is what it takes in order to abide in him and to take up your cross daily.
After my time living in Los Angeles and seeing the abominations that I have seen, I can tell you that I do not care about the stage. I do not care about the microphone, “success,” or all of those things that orphans chase after. All I want is to have deeper intimacy with my Father in heaven. I refuse to bow my knee to the spirit of this age and to chase any other gods than the Lord. All of these other things mean absolutely nothing compared to abiding in oneness with the Father. If he is not in it, then I do not want it. Period.
So now what? What is the next step that will change the course of my life and yours? It’s simple really. Your next step is INTO him. Your next step will always be into him! All of these other things are vanity. Everything without him will burn and means absolutely nothing. See, God is raising up a generation of living oracles that cannot be bought or sold! They do not care about “prestige,” big names, or popularity. They only care about doing what the Father is doing and speaking only what the Father is speaking! He is raising up a generation that hungers and thirsts for righteousness. He is calling forth the manifest sons of God in this hour to bring many out of “orphanship” and into mature sonship.
Jesus, you can have it all. We lay down every dream, vision, gift, and call that you have given us on your altar. We desire you and only you. These things mean nothing compared to having intimacy with you. Help us to live out Matthew 6:33 where we seek YOU first and trust that all other things will be given to us at your timing according to your perfect plan and desire. We step into Psalm 23 and abide in your seat of rest.
