Watchmen In The Midnight Hour

I will stand at my watch post; I will remain stationed on the city wall. I will keep watching, so I can see what he says to me and can know how I should answer when he counters my argument. 2 The Lord responded: “Write down this message! Record it legibly on tablets, so the one who announces it may read it easily. 3 For the message is a witness to what is decreed; it gives reliable testimony about how matters will turn out. Even if the message is not fulfilled right away, wait patiently; for it will certainly come to pass—it will not arrive late. 4 Look, the one whose desires are not upright will faint from exhaustion, but the person of integrity will live because of his faithfulness.
— Habakkuk 2:1-3 (New English Translation)

Have you ever felt the call of the interceding watchman where you feel the burden of the Word of the Lord in you that you cannot escape for days or weeks about a warning or certain situation? Maybe you feel a stirring in the Spirit about a move of God that is happening? Watchmen are "on the spot" people. They hear from God in the "now" and tell you what is happening behind the scenes whether it be a move of God or warning from God.

At other times, the Holy Spirit comes upon you to pray in that moment for a particular person or situation that will change after you are done praying. My Lord, how many times has the intercessor call been ignored and lives were lost in the war? How many times was this call not even heard because people have become so calloused to the voice of God by him being drowned out by other voices and from sin? In these moments where the burden of God comes upon you, he is showing you things in the Spirit in order to stand at the watch post and pray against the attacks of the enemy. Are you willing to war in prayer or are you too busy filling your lives with the entertainment of the world?

Many times the watchmen and intercessors of the church are mocked and not listened to because they see things that most others do not. Why is this so? Often, I have found that many people in the church are spiritually asleep and are not in tune with the voice of the Spirit of God. Some have bought into a false Gospel that no persecution will ever come their way, that bad things never happen, or that if you truly follow Jesus you will become rich and prosper to the point of being “untouchable.” This is contrary to God’s word because Jesus himself said in the Beatitudes that you will be persecuted for his name’s sake because when demons are confronted by the undiluted truth, they will rise up against it.

If everything is “fine” in your church and people are not talking about you as a preacher, then what Gospel are you preaching? If you truly carry the message of repentance and the fire of God, you will be persecuted without a doubt. John the Baptist came preaching the message of repentance, and he lost his head for it. Are you willing to lose yours? The first message that Jesus ever preached was the message of repentance. He was baptized into the message of repentance by John the Baptist and came up preaching that message under the baptism of the Holy Ghost and fire! Where is your fire? If you have been in the church system long, it has probably been snuffed out the religious spirit of the pharisees or denominational dribble.

If there was ever a time in history that the watchmen need to stand on their post, it is in this midnight hour. In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus asked his disciples if they could not keep watch and pray for one hour. Are you like the disciples that fell asleep at their watchpost? How many times has Jesus came to you with a word and you did not deliver it? How many times did he tell you to stand in the gap as an intercessor and you fell asleep or did not heed that call? Maybe you gave excuses like, “I am too busy. That is not my calling. Someone else can do it. That is only for preachers. It is kind of boring to pray.” Folks, every believer is called to pray. It is not for just the leaders of the church. We are ALL priests and worship the High Priest! If you think prayer is boring then I doubt you know the Living God. You can make all of the excuses in the world to turn away from the watchmen call, but it does not change the fact that you will have blood on your hands for being disobedient.

We are in the last watch of the night whether you believe it or not. Who is willing to stand guard and stand awake through the midnight hour? Who is willing to yield to the call of the watchman and war through intercession? Who is willing to yield to the burden of the Word of the Lord and to be obedient to his commands? Intercession is the most important ministry of all. It wars against what most do not see. It stands in the gap of many souls and saves innocent bloodshed. It releasing warring angels and the ministry of all angelic hosts. It prepares cities for the great harvest of revivals. Intercession moves mountains that nothing else can and opens doors that none can shut. Intercession produces holy visitations that will result in holy habitation. Do you not want a holy habitation for your household, church, city, and nation? Intercession moves heaven on earth!

You can scoff and make fun of those that preach Christ’s return is imminent. In fact, you are fulfilling prophecy by your scoffing and unbelief. 2 Peter 3 warns us of scoffers in the last days. That is not the group you would want to be in when you stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ. If 1 John warned that it was the last hour then, my Lord, is it not even more the last hour now?
